Climbing debt may rile Americans
Soviet dictator Joseph Stalin famously said, “One death is a tragedy; a million is a statistic”. The same principle, that the public can more easily grasp a small tragedy than a huge one, can be applied to budget matters. Americans can get rightly riled about a public official who misuses several thousand of their hard earned dollars, but it’s harder to get them riled about more massive abuses. A thousand bucks is a tragedy, whereas trillions of dollars are too hard to comprehend, let alone to get angry over. Well Americans better learn to get angry soon, given that the federal debt has now hit over $9 trillion, which is a heck of a lot of money, even by government standards. The debt which includes obligations such as T-bonds, T-bills and T-notes, has soared from$5.6 trillion when George W. Bush took office. The president so far has pushed to increase the debt limit five times during his presidency, making the current debt limit $9.8 trillion. At current trends, especially with the rate of spending to fund the Iraq war, it won’t be too long before President Bush is asking to increase that limit again.
When will it stop? The annual budget deficit also is a problem, although $163 billion dollars sounds tiny compared with numbers followed by a dozen zeroes. These numbers reflect an amazing amount of red ink., a testament to the way the federal government continues to grow and to the way politicians, especially Republicans recognize no bounds to the amount of money the government can borrow and spend. It’s ironic that although rhetorically speaking, the Democratic Party is the party of big government, in reality the Republican Party at the national level has proved itself to be the true party of bigger and more expensive government.
The Libertarian Party noted, in a statement released Thursday, “It took from George Washington to Ronald Reagan for the national debt to reach the $1 trillion mark, a period of more than 190 years. Now 27 years later, the national debt has risen more than 800 percent under three Republicans and one Democrat president. However only $1.2 trillion of national debt was accrued during President Bill Clintons administration, meaning the bulk of the national debt comes from Republican administrations.
It’s about time for candidates in the two major parties to stop making promises about how much more of your money they want to spend and start outlining serious plans to rein in the deficit and the debt.
( PS. Didn't Bush initially say he estimated the Iraq war to cost only $84 billion?)

Beware of Latest E-Mail Scam using US Military as a cover.
Dear Friend,
With a very desperate need for assistance, I have summed up courage to contact you.I am presently in Iraq with the serving with the US Marine platoon;I found your contact particulars in an Address journal.I am seeking your assistance to evacuate the sum of$15 000 000(Fifteen million dollars) to you,as far as I can be assured that it will be safe in your care until I complete my service here. This is no stolen money, and there are no dangers involved. SOURCE OF MONEY: Some money in various currencies was discovered concealed in barrels with piles of weapons and ammunitions at a location near one of Saddam's old palaces during a rescue operation, and it was agreed by all party present that the money be shared amongst us,this was quite an illegal thing to do, but I tell you what? No compensation can make up for the risks we have taken with our lives in this hell hole. The above figure was given to me as my share, and to conceal this kind of money became a problem for me, so with the help of a German contact working here, and his office enjoys some immunity,I wa able to get the package out to a safe location entirely out of trouble spot.He does not know the real contents of the package, and believes that it belongs to an Asian American who died in an air raid, and before giving up,trusted me to hand over the package to his business associate. There is a secured way of getting the package out to as afer country for you to pick up,and i will discuss this with you when I am sure that you are willing to assist me.One passionate appeal I will make to you is not to discuss this matter with a third party, should you have reasons to reject this offer, please destroy this mail as any leakage of this information will be too bad for us. I do not know for how long we will remain here probably during winter break i would be home,I have survived 2 suicide bomb attacks by the special grace of God,this and other reasons I will mention later has prompted me to reach out for help. Please you can reach me on my personal e-mail address below for more informations. Respectfully,
Cpt John Neilsen.

This was just forwarded to me and asked to pass on.
The year is 1907, one hundred years ago......
Theodore Roosevelt's ideas on Immigrants and being an AMERICAN in 1907.
"In the first place, we should insist that if the immigrant who comes here in good faith becomes an American and assimilates himself to us, he shall be treated on an exact equality with everyone else, for it is an outrage to discriminate against any such man because of creed, or birthplace, or origin. But this is predicated upon the person's becoming in every facet an American, and nothing but an American...There can be no divided allegiance here. Any man who says he is an American, but something else also, isn't an American at all. We have room for but one flag, the American flag... We have room for but one language here, and that is the English language... and we have room for but one sole loyalty and that is a loyalty to the American people."
Theodore Roosevelt 1907
Every American citizen needs to read this!

Today I saw some cool oil fields and watched a guy do a dance in a costume that I think I'll introduce to the folks back home. it looked like fun.
I did ask at one of the villages if they knew that one of their idiots were missing. They laffed and said not now, whatever that means.
Well gotta go and meet some important peeples they say. I guess it's about me hiring some of their peeples to work on my ranch in Texas.
