I was heart broken to see another young black male killed on the streets of Hampton Roads. The Oscar Smith high school football player had a promising college career. When I turn on the news each night it is weather and murder. It almost amounts to a genocidal suicide. It's a mystery why blacks hate themselves so intensely. I grow weary attending another funeral of a young black male between the ages of 15 and 23. Sociologists attribute this high rate of black-on-black crime, in part, to a lack of self-esteem among young African American men. Stats indicate that black males have an 18% chance of serving time in prison at some point in their lives compared to 3% of white males. Blacks males are 10 times more likely to be murdered than whites. We need to do something as a society. I am sadden.
