Not to sound Negative but they should have never built New Orleans where it is located.... It will be wiped out again someday and all the preparation in the world is no match for the fury of nature..... Below sea level is below sea level..... The Goverment did what it was supposed to do... It warned people and told them to evacuate..... If it had been wiped out again so soon it would had been interesting to see politics in action.....

The governors all worked to together and worked with local government. That is how it should of been 3 years ago but in Louisiana the Governor could not work with the Mayor of New Orleans.

It's tough for me to grade someone (an entity) when I have not been around to fully evaluate their accomplishments.

So, assuming the news media is close to accurate and have reported things fairly then I would give Gustav preparations an A-.

They learned their lesson with Katrina and were playing the "better safe than sorry" card.

The reason for the A- is because more could be done for drainage in New Orleans. There was minimal flooding but if they can build levees, create barriers for future hurricanes as they did - then they need to fix low spots also.

A- (not too bad)

The whole thing was blown out of proportion and cost taxpayers way too much money.

A. I think they did a good job. Yes it was costly, but less than it would have been if the hurricane hit hard and we werent prepared.

"But war, in a good cause, is not the greatest evil which a nation can suffer. War is an ugly thing, but not the ugliest of things: the decayed and degraded state of moral and patriotic feeling which thinks nothing worth a war, is worse. When a people are used as mere human instruments for firing cannon or thrusting bayonets, in the service and for the selfish purposes of a master, such war degrades a people. A war to protect other human beings against tyrannical injustice – a war to give victory to their own ideas of right and good, and which is their own war, carried on for an honest purpose by their free choice – is often the means of their regeneration. A man who has nothing which he is willing to fight for, nothing which he cares more about than he does about his personal safety, is a miserable creature who has no chance of being free, unless made and kept so by the exertions of better men than himself. As long as justice and injustice have not terminated their ever-renewing fight for ascendancy in the affairs of mankind, human beings must be willing, when need is, to do battle for the one against the other." - John Stuart Mill
