According to FBI figures released today, about 873,000 people were arrested on marijuana charges in the United States last year, 5 percent more than in 2006 and a new record. This is the fifth year in a row that marijuana arrests, which are up 167 percent since 1990, have increased. In 2007 marijuana arrests accounted for nearly half of the 1.8 million drug arrests; as usual, the vast majority of the pot busts, about 775,000, were for simple possession.I cannot imagine the resources dedicated to busting those people who possess a small amount of weed. To me, this is the law enforcement equivalent of pork barrel spending – resources are used for a lower priority rather than helping out with school security, cleaning the streets of murder, theft, rape and other violent activities.

This is not advocating the use of weed, but resources should not be spent on cracking down the simple possession or use of weed. If someone chooses to do bodily harm to themselves, there should be no punishment other than what they are inflicting on themselves.

Now, if they are driving while "high" or drunk, then it is time to crack down. At this point, someone puts another life in danger.

But the millions spent and days occupied chasing those down who hold weed are a waste. Posted by Nick Sloan at 12:30:00 AM Labels:       Seriously.. isnt it time to end prohibition... just think of all the taxes they would have collected instead of spending!

Think of all the crime the habit does invite on the American public, rape, sure give them teenage girls some pot, getting to third base will be easy. Theft, I need some money for pot, man. Murder, never ever still from a dealer, death will surely follow. Other violent activities, this our gang territory where we have the rights to sell drugs, now scram or we will shoot. Are you starting to figure out Nick Sloan's intentions?

Vision on the subject of pot , you are an extremist... I have never heard of someone smoking a joint and going home and beating their spouse.. I would rather see alcohol outlawed and pot legalized.

Well bravo for you, somehow I am not surprised, how are those "horse" ranches out your way, ha ha ha ha Check out Florida's bust 2,500 arrested in a two month sting. Some were natorious gang members, but you wouldn't know these guys, right. Others, some of AMW's most sought after, yeah, you just hate these stings that waste tax dollars.

If it wasnt illegal.. there would be no problem. If people can obtain, grow, sell, legally.. dont you think they would have to move on to another trade? Dont you think it would cut into the profit margin for them.. severely?

No because then who would control the taxes on sells, much like the cartels that currently operate along and within the US. There will always be someone, or some institution government of cartel that will try to control, with taxes or by territory control, you know this. Who will control the growth, how much could be considered legal or illegal. Pot is a immature escape, I am sorry that you exposed yourself to this lifestyle and approve of it. But it entails a lot more than just a simple pot plant, and a hippy dude.

Induce a "free for all" pot world, do you realistically think that could exist? Somehow I do not think so. People are greedy by nature and some more than others.

Vision, I grew up in the 70's a lot went on then, when I was grown up it didnt have any place in my world...but people I know that still do, they are all right...

I didnt expose myself to anyone. I have commented many time of my past and my views. You are starting to become insulting and half the time what you say, doesnt make any sense. It is like you type wildly, with broken thoughts... I think you are on something.

I have been to Amsterdam, Pot is legal there, and guess what... hardly any of the citizens, actually smoke it.. it is around and easily available... so, it loses some of the charm for them.

I have never heard of someone smoking pot and going home and beating up their wife.. but I sure have heard about is plenty in relationship with alcohol.

Pot being illegal is nothing more than a second prohibition. When alcohol was outlawed, people ran all kinds of illegal operations. There were the gangs of those days, that had territories and killed others that encroached on it. There were millions of dollars made illegal and many went to jail.. The government finally had to find it useless. I think that is where pot is headed.

Insulting, in what way? So basically you want to be able to smoke pot, you want it to be legal, you think that everyone should be able to smoke, sell, and grow, and if I disagree then it is insulting. When you visit another country, that is what it is visit, if you like Amsterdam lifestyle and legalities then why do you live in America. Why keep adjusting our laws to accomodate people that would rather live in another country.

Not a problem, I am the only one that responded to any debate to this blog, but I'll go.

I dont want to smoke pot.. you seem to keep missing that point, I just dont think that people who want to ought to be stopped. And I was pointing out my observations when I was in Amsterdam. I love this country, I just think that the money and resources spent fighting a losing battle against something as stupid as pot is ridiculous..
