It’s not just Bannister Mall. The mall might have been the initial site of the wound, but the infection has spread in all directions. Drive down Blue Ridge from 87th Street south to Longview (115th Street) and look at the smaller strip-malls like Loma Vista and Ruskin and the businesses that have closed. Further to the east is the Robindee shopping center that once served the needs of the residents in the immediate area. You could walk to the grocery, there was a laundry, at one time there was a library there and hardware store, and a florist shop—they’re all gone. All that remains are a few small businesses that do not really serve much of the community. Eventually, it will go the way of the Bannister Mall and all the businesses will be close.

Take a tour of the residential streets east of Blue Ridge and you’ll find an abundance of for sale signs. Once privately owned signal family homes are now rental houses and show the distinctive signs of rental property. There is trash and old furniture hauled out to the curb and left there for the city to pick up, if it ever gets around to it. Property values are falling like the leaves of fall. Once a great neighborhood in which to live and raise a family is just about gone. The inner city has come to suburbia.

True story. it is an infection that spreads like a flesh eating virus. Continually spread outward while simultaneously digging deeper and deeper exposing layers of flesh as it moves. Eventually it will expose bone.. and then all is lost.

It's a F'N Plague! These people turn everything to SH!T! Independence Center is well on it's way! Have you seen the crowds there lately? If these worthless people, gangsters and thugs would learn some respect, things would stay nice! First they move in all around ruining all the once nice neighborhoods, then they trash all the homes and parks, then they find anything else that looks nice and maintained and trash it too! Is that Racist or FACT? They don't respect themselves, others or anything for that matter. They hold themselves back in society. Maybe Obama being elected will change them but I seriously doubt it!

Watch them walk out of a gas station, open their grape value soda, their pork rinds bag, their newports and throw all the trash on the ground without a care in the world.
I own a moving company. Try going into these peoples homes to move their trashy a$$es. TRASH EVERYWHERE! Jelly on the tops of dressers, curly hairs stuck to em', chicken bones under the bed, dust and oily sh!t all over everything!!! They don't own a vacuum. These people just don't care! Nasty F'N People!!!!!! Why would they respect anything else?! The clean ones are RARE, and normally successful! LEARN SOME F'N R.E.S.P.E.C.T., A "SISTER" wrote a song about it! Still,None.

I didn't name a color or a race! It's the type of people. Whites, Blacks, Latinos, Asians, Samoans.... They all fall into this category! Look around! I'm always considered a racist for stating facts and yet I don't ever put it on one race! ?? That is how you perceive it, not how I stated it! It is a certain kind of people, but not any particular race. Open your minds, and look at the real FACTS, racists!

They way you put it implied it pretty deeply.. but, I was hoping....
I like anyone that participates in the legal marijuana protests as much as you do.. and I thought you had flipped a switch.

wow smitty , um.. bigoted statements beget bigoted people :( ... maybe i am a naive flower child but try going about the problem as a village not just an individual

if you see something wrong with our village , then dont stand around and point fingers . do something about it , "dont stand just cause man, ..stand up for a JUST CAUSE."

you have a ligament complaint you just went about it in the most un "it takes a village" kinda way.

yes the decay of our city is fast becoming a cancer , so please lets rally around the business owners and families that want KC to work. We have to stick together, not fight.Visit your local business that has been holding out in your community and trying to make KC how it once was.

If society continues to argue and bicker with each other we are going to look like damn fools when the Aliens from outer space land and see us all fighting amongst all of man kind .:)
One world not one Nation, you should always think Global but go Local, cleaning up the world starts with your own front yard .

Funny that since I travel alot, I have noticed something. All is dependent on area. Here in KCMO, it is black this black that.
In Denver if you spew black this & black that- your a racist. Yet if you spew the same words & replace black with mexican. That is OK.

Metro bus ruined Bannister mall
You must also ask the residents in that area
Why do you drive 15 miles to shop? Why not shop 1-2 miles from home? It is funny that many call whites racist, yet blacks don't want to be around black's or patronize shops that are black owned.
There in lays the real problem.
Blacks are scared of themselves.

I still live in that area and am sickened by what it has become. Mom and Dad moved there in '54, we survived the '57 tornado and rebuilt. I graduated from Ruskin while it was still AAA accredited and you could get a decent education and you didn't have to worry about kids carrying guns and knives to school.

It was more than the Metro bus that ruined Bannister Mall. HUD and Section 8 helped as much as the mall security not taking care of hoodlums and thugs loitering around and harassing people because we all had to be politically correct and not offend any certain ethnic groups. We can thank Cleaver and Barnes for not taking an interest in South KC so they could fulfill their own agenda of a Negro Baseball Museum and the 18th & Vine area (even though hardly anyone wants to go down there) and of course, the Power and Light District and the Sprint Center....Kay Barnes's memorial to herself. Their thought was just "to hell with South KC". Now the mall has become a place to have gun shows in an area where guns are clearly not needed. All of my shopping and restaurant dollars (and those taxes) go to Lees Summit. Barnes and Cleaver screwed up big time forgetting that all of us 'down south' live in their city too!

I just do not understand how Mexicans will set up restaurants, stores with imported goods, and blacks do not. Blacks could have "southern cooking" restaurants, or imported goods, but they do not, then they cry they have no future, no hope so they tear up what little they do have.

Heather, REALLY? Because I could have sworn it had to do with the nightly gun shots you could hear and the mugging and raping that happened in the parking lot and the unattended youth that caused too many problems for people to go there.. but ok.. let's go with your thoughts..

I know that you can get stuff cheap at Walmart, but you cant get quality and style there. Why did people go other place than Bannister Mall or Walmart for these items?
