SmartTravel.com recently named Kansas City as one of the "top 5 travel destinations to watch" along with Riviera Nayarit, Vancouver, Peru, * Vilnius, Lithuania.

What have the folks at SmartTravel.com been smokin'?

Part of their rationale for KC's selection was the Sprint Center & the Power & Light District.

Insert vomiting emoticon here!!!

Guess the selection committee either a.) has only seen the pretty pictures of the vivid blue lights in the area, or b.) haven't yet been victimized by overzealous towing companies at the time of publication.

I can think of 100 other places in KC I'd rather visit that the P&L district/Spit Center (no typo), and at least that many other U.S destinations that I would recommend my friends/relatives to visit other than KC (starting with the mayor's office/house/love nest, etc).

Enjoy your stay, and the tow lots will leave the light on for you!

What fans are saying: (courtesy chiefsplanet.com and espn.com)
Triple: "I bet that Carl was strongly encouraged to tender his resignation."
rrl308: "Yessssssssssss!!!!!!!"
cantstopdachiefs: ""The 'King' is gone, YES!"
chiefsfan86: "Our dreams have come true

I may be just being petty, BUT....why in the world does Fox 4 need to go to chiefsplanet.com and espn.com to quote fan reaction to Carl Peterson's resignation?

Doesn't the opinion of the bloggers right here on the Fox 4 blog site hold any water?  Webmaster_rebecca's blog has over 30 responses that would have been just as good to capture the sentiment of the Chiefs faithful.

Come on Fox 4, please don't forget about the loyal bloggers you have that also happen to be passionate about their Chiefs!

I just read an article on F4 reporting that the former mayor's office employee who allegedly was discriminated against just "upped the ante" on her lawsuit against the city to $800,000.  They are also threatening a "slander" lawsuit because of Mayor Funkhouser's statement after settling his portion of the original suit, and claim the amount they are seeking increased as a direct result of his statement (sometimes the truth really does hurt, huh??)

I would love to see the attorney's calculations to substantiate this amount.

To me, this matter has now gone from a lawsuit to extortion.  Isn't that against the law in this country.

The attorney ought to be disbarred and this lady thrown in jail for even suggesting her "mental anguish & pain and suffering" amounted to even 1% of that amount.

Shame on them!

This past Saturday evening, the Heart of America Council of the Boy Scouts of America sponsored a "night out with the Roos," where Scouts were able to earn tickets to the UMKC Roos basketball game.  The Council provided pizza for the Scouts & their parents, then enjoyed the UMKC game, as they defeated IPFW.

Much to the horror of many who parked in the "pay" lot between 12th & 13th & Broadway, they came out to finding their car windows busted out, and various items stolen.

I personally counted 20 vehicles that had been broken into.  It was heart-wrenching to see the broken hearts of the scouts and their parents as they walked up to their cars, only to find their good deeds that earned them the tickets quashed in mere seconds by some mindless thugs.

Please use good judgement where you park when attending any function downtown.  It appears that overzealous tow truck operators are not the only predators crawling around down there.

OJ Simpson will be sentenced tomorrow after being convicted of 12 felonies for his involvement in a robbery of 2 sports memorabilia dealers in Las Vegas.

He is looking at the possibility of life in prison, but will definitely serve time.

On the other side of the coin, Denise Brown (sister of OJ's murdered wife) was recently hired as a guard for the Nevada Department of Corrections.

Hmmm...that's about as good as it gets!

Injured Deer Attacks Hunter In '15 Seconds of Hell'

A Sedalia hunter bagged a big buck on the second day of firearms season, but the kill caused him a lot of pain.

Forty-nine-year-old Randy Goodman said he thought two well-placed shots with his .270-caliber rifle had killed the buck on Nov. 19. Goodman said the deer looked dead to him, but seconds later the nine-point, 240-pound animal came to life.

The buck rose up, knocked Goodman down and attacked him with his antlers in what the veteran hunter called "15 seconds of hell."

The deer ran a short distance and went down, and died after Goodman fired two more shots.

Soon Goodman started feeling dizzy and noticed his vest was soaked in blood.

So he reached his truck and drove to a hospital, where he received seven staples in his scalp and was treated for a slight concussion and bruises.

Congratulations to the Northwest Missouri State Football team for advancing to the NCAA Div II Semifinals.

The Bearcats Saturday quarterfinal game against Abeline Christian gave me more butterflies than my Huskers did against Colorado.

The Cats are one win away from their fourth consecutive trip to the Div II championship game.  Talk about dynasty!!!

Good Luck!

Also, the Div II Mineral Water Bowl (the first official bowl game of the college season) will be held this Saturday at Tiger Stadium in Excelsior Springs.  If you want to see a good college game for a reasonable price, this is the place to be...

I saw some of the footage of the suspected graves that our city's finest uncovered down in a homeless camp at the West Bottoms yesterday, and was a little bit shocked at their over-zealous attempts to locate bodies.

Any good Boy Scout would have recognized those structures in a second.....I think what our police investigators were excavating were good old-fashioned PIT PRIVIES.  Yes, the police officers could have been wallowing in a big-ole pile of "FUNK" that wasn't located in City Hall!!

October 30, 2008 -- New York Post

JOSIAH Leming, a homeless singer whose mother is dying of cancer, might be blocked from releasing the album he recorded because he was a contestant last season on "American Idol."

Leming, 19, who didn't make the show's top 24, received an official letter from "Idol" threatening legal action if he puts out his record in January as planned.

"Idol" contestants must sign strict contracts with the show's producer, Simon Fuller's 19 Entertainment, promising to record only with the label chosen by "Idol" - Sony/BMG. The 19 Entertainment shop also retains exclusive right of refusal for management and merchandising.

When the smash-hit show began in 2002, only finalists had to sign the contract - but now it's mandatory for all contestants.

A rep for Leming, who grew up in Tennessee as one of eight siblings, said, "Josiah was the only 'Idol' contestant ever to get a record deal who didn't make the top 24, and one of only four contestants to get a deal this year. He has personal reasons for getting his music out, threat or not."

Leming was the young man who was living in his car, performing on the road, when he auditioned earlier this year and was told by Simon Cowell during Hollywood Week, "Of all the auditions this year, this is the one I am going to remember most."

Leming is now "is racing the clock," his rep told us. "His mother has terminal cancer, and nothing is going to stop him from getting his music out while she is alive to share it. His album on Warner Records will be released in late January '09."

Leming's lawyer has shot a letter back to "Idol" producers but hasn't heard back. "We're waiting," the rep said. An "Idol" rep didn't return our calls or e-mails.

THIS IS AN OUTRAGE!!! (isn't it?).  Let's all boycott AI for being such big bullies...

I just read that Mayor Funkhouser has been conducting more and more city meetings at his home, since the City Council passed the ordinance that prevents Gloria from being at City Hall.

I think I can see where this is going...

(For those overly sensitive blog readers, the following is an attempt at sarcasm!)

I think Mr. Mayor and Gloooooria, G-L-O-R-I-A should get their jammies on, and conduct all city related business from their bed, until the Council repeals the ordinance (or simply call "do overs" like they did to the voter approved light rail plan).....It worked for John and Yoko.

I just saw the footage of Doppler Don escaping from a car, while it's sinking in a lake.

My first reaction was "why would you want to do that?"  My second: "why would you want to do that again?"

I admire your courage....to be willing to do that in the name of scie...uh whatever it was done in the name of....and to do it in a lake with 0 protection from the frigid lake water.....wow!

WTG!!!

I just read the story of a 12 year old Florida girl who was called a racist, because she wore a pink "Go Sarah Go" shirt to school.

The girl was volunteering at the Republican Party headquarters, and received the shirt as a gift from fellow volunteers.

Next thing you know, plans for race riots will be underway for all major cities in the US, just in case Obama loses the election...

It has now become evident that the Hunt family has written off the Chiefs' season, as they are now entertaining the possible trade of Tony "I-me-my" G and Larry "I-me-my" Johnson to contenders?!?

Gee, if both are so desperate to leave Kansas City, then send them to whatever team gives KC the best offer, contender or not!  And if I remember correctly, Detroit is in need of a General Manager, so why not package up Carl "screwthefans" Peterson with the two "I-me-mys" and send them to the Lions.

If the front office is writing off the Chiefs season, then maybe the fans should too.

The mating season for deer is fast approaching, once again making them an unexpected hazard on our local highways.

At last count, I've seen 5 dead dear along I-35 from Brighton to the Hwy 152 exit.

Please use caution if you see deer standing near a road; their behavior is unpredictable, and they are likely to bolt right in front of your vehicle in a matter of seconds.

Does are being chased by the bucks, and the bucks don't stop for anything.

Hopefully, this will save you and the deer from having a very bad day.
