We need to get 10 on your side to find out why everyone in a Drug Sting had charges dropped except the one kid who sits in jail because he did what his lawyer did. All the others kept putting it off as they new something was not right. So all of them where let go because of dirty cops and now the one who should not be in jail as he dose not drink some or do drugs. We need a shake up in Gloucester.

My son was recently the victim of a fatal car accident in Virginia Beach. No matter what the circumstances of the accident, I feel that those who report the news to the general public should always offcer their prayers and condolences to the families and friends of the victims. The accident was reported may times in both the papers and on the local news, and never were the grieving families or friends comforted by the newcasters.
Life goes on as usual for everyone after the news has been delivered, but the families and friends of the victims are never the same. Please show compassion to all individuals involved in fatalities, whether they be vehicle accidents, shootings, etc. The only condolences i can recall have been given to the living victims of natural disasters. We could all use a hug.

Two stories in the news caught my attention partly because of their similarity and their differences.
First Story: http://news.yahoo.com/s/nm/20080716/bs_nm/samsun
g_sentence_dc
Second Story:http://news.yahoo.com/s/ap/20080716/ap_on_bi_ge/p
eople_lou_pearlman
The great thing about both of these stories is, they are both white collar crimes that have been prosecuted and convictions won. That's the similarity. That's actually a great happening, I believe more stories like these two would garner a greater respect for the government, especially if trials where going after politicians, there would also be a increase in viewers of MSM news shows and readership of newspapers. All of these would lead to a greater sense, by the individual, that they were important and would naturally instill a greater pride with a corresponding rise in hope and moral compass. Blah, Blah, Blah, Blah, Blah.
The differences, aside from being different countries, I know thats important, however, I don't see that as being as important as the victims. In S. Korea the victim was the government, and the criminal is described as a powerful businessman. Now since I believe world wide most politicians have been bought off by powerful businessmen. It was a friend being publicly humiliated in court. Hence the short jail sentence that was suspended. While the fine was high enough to discourage others from doing the same, it most likely didn't change his or his families way of life.
In the second story, Peralman is described as a swindler, making him a unsuccessful businessman. The victims in the second story are different also. Banks and investors. The investors I know nothing about, other than they had enough money to invest and they must have expected some sort of return. The banks on the other hand I know a little about, they print money when needed for loans. Most of the time it is done just by accounting in some ones account. Banking has become so profitable its shameful, all new money is created as someone's debt, the fractional reserve system doesn't require the money being lent out to actually be on deposit. Well not most of it anyway, a small fraction yes. but most of it if just created out of thin air and keystrokes on a computer. Blah, Blah Blah, Blah Blah. The banks own more politicians and powerful businessmen than governments hence the difference in the penalties. Twenty five years and a 300 million dollars fine.
A successful businessman vs the government, small penalty.
A unsuccessful swindler vs the banks, he'll die in jail and have no estate left to will to his heirs.
Lesson for me, the banks own the governments.
P.S. I tried a whole bunch of time to do the link button thing, couldn't get it right, maybe next time.

No, I am not talking about second hand smoke from smokers, but the smoke that has covered the Tidewater area for the past month or so.
Forget about those who have lung issues and are sensitive to smoke, but let's talk about another group of people this may be affecting; those with allergies.
Right now I have a real nasty rash and when I went to the doctor, she asked if I had been around poison ivy. Since in my conversation, I could not think of where I could have contracted poison ivy, she grasped at other straws on naming my itchy; burning rash which seemd to be consuming my midriff.
She called in another doctor and they decided just maybe it was impetigo, since I went swimming in a public pool at King's Dominion before getting this nasty rash. Therefore I was put on an antibiotic. I was told if it didn't get better by the end of the weekend to come back for re-evaluation.
Here is news...it's not better! I have little dots popping up on legs, back and arms still. After trying to research my rash on the Internet, I find it resembles most like poison ivy.
Also in my research... I have discovered that it is possible for me to have poison ivy without touching it. Just breathe in the smoke from the Great Dismall Swamp fires and you might just obtain a nice rash for yourself. Only try having poison ivy from the inside versus a contact rash.
Well, I am going back to the doctor tomorrow with my "research project" to explain that I may have poison ivy after all. Meanwhile I am going to take some Benedryll and use Calamine lotion in hopes that I can make myself more comfortable until I see my doctor to verify my findings.
So my words to the people of this area; when there is smoke in the air from the fires...lung problems may not be the only problem resulting from the exposure. Be aware that poison ivy burning is not a good thing to be inhaled and it is very possible to get it from the smoke you breathe.
Hopefully my experience with allow others to be aware of the hazards of breathing smoke.

A recent study and subsequent recommendation by a drug company claims that we should start testing infants (2 yr. olds) and start them on a life time drug regiment for high cholesterol. Have we gone completely nuts? What will be next? These children will never be able to get insurance or jobs when they become adults. I know it sounds cruel but considering the population problem, it might not be in the best interest of the planet as a whole, if the medical industry would continues playing God at the expense of all of us. Looking at their history of drug development and side effects that are worse than the original problem. We don't need to teach them how and what to eat or the benefits of exercise, will just drug them. There is no cure for the this kind of sick thinking.

It was held at the Chesapeake Conference Center and I served as the emcee. Hundreds of city workers were recognized for their years of service- in departments ranging from Public Works- to Police and Fire.

Two were even acknowledged for giving 45 years of service!
Mayor Dalton Edge says the city prides itself on retaining employees- and moving them through the ranks, in Chesapeake.
Congratulations to all of the employees of the City of Chesapeake. Your dedication is honorable!

I am so frustrated about not having no home phone or Internet service at my new home. I am a first time home owner and I will be moving into my first home at the end of the month. In the meanwhile I am preparing for the move but there is a problem. I was reading the articles on the Virginia Pilot online when I came across an article about Remington Park (which is where I'm moving too). To my surprise the residents that are currently living there are complaining about not having home phone service, no Internet service, and poor cell phone signals. Now I was aware of this when I first visited the place back in April of this year with my real estate agent. When my husband and I questioned the real estate agent for the community about these services she assured us that by the time we move in that there will be service. Mind you this was in April. Now its is July and we are nearing our date to close but there is still no type of services and no one seems to know when it will be in place. I take classes online so this will effect my tremendously because I rely on the Internet for my classes. I don't understand why this problem has not been resolved. This is a dangerous thing because there are elderly people who live in this community. How in the world would anyone be able to call for help if there is an emergency without a home phone? Why haven't the city of Suffolk stepped in and handle this? People should not have to go without communication to the outside world and these builders who are responsible for this mess should be held accountable and pay more than the little 50 to 150 dollar refund that don't help the cost of the cell phone bill and wireless Internet card.

I was heart broken to see another young black male killed on the streets of Hampton Roads. The Oscar Smith high school football player had a promising college career. When I turn on the news each night it is weather and murder. It almost amounts to a genocidal suicide. It's a mystery why blacks hate themselves so intensely. I grow weary attending another funeral of a young black male between the ages of 15 and 23. Sociologists attribute this high rate of black-on-black crime, in part, to a lack of self-esteem among young African American men. Stats indicate that black males have an 18% chance of serving time in prison at some point in their lives compared to 3% of white males. Blacks males are 10 times more likely to be murdered than whites. We need to do something as a society. I am sadden.

A police officer shot and killed in the line of duty, and the state brings in their toughest prosecutor and judge from up state at a cost of over a million dollars and they take the death penalty off the table? sounds like to me they've looked at the case and in an attempt to save face for even arresting Ryan Fredricks, their willing to dangle life in jail in front of him, hoping that he'll take it and avoid a trial that would bring the facts into the light of public scrutiny.
Will some one have to file freedom of information papers to get the results of the independent study of the Chesapeake Police. Everything about the behavior of the Chesapeake police should scare the fecal matter. out of the citizens of Chesapeake. Ryan Fredricks is a POW in the war on a drug that at one time was legal in Va. for Dr.s to write a prescriptions for. The state built all these prisons and want to fill them. This just creates a need or excuse for them to raise taxes, since they can't import prisoners from any other states now. Jail as private industry just doesn't sound like a free country to me. I miss America. maybe I should move back, right out side the Va. state line.

Crisis, a time of intense difficulty, trouble or danger.Crisis, a time when a difficult or important decision must be made. Crisis, the turning point of a disease when an important change takes place indicating either recovery or death.Crisis, the point in a play or story when a crucial conflict takes place, determining the outcome of the plot.
This word was used time and time again when the governor and other state officials were talking about the traffic and road problems recently. All they could come up with is more predictions of doom and gloom and scary forecasts of how bad the problem is and how bad it's going to get in an attempt to cast a shadow of fear so dark that we would cheer at the ideal of giving up more of our money in the hope of seeing some relief in five, ten or fifteen years as the project slowly get finished. All I could think of is that bumper sticker that was popular a few years back " A LACK OF PLANNING ON YOUR PART, DOESN'T MAKE A EMERGENCY ON MY PART.
I don't think we should give this state one more cent for roads until the make a true commitment to mass transit. I talking about a real mass transit system. Not just more HRT buses but a system that can get you from IOW to the ocean front in the same or less time than driving yourself. From Hampton and Newport News to deep into Chesapeake in a timely fashion. Maybe a rail system that parallels the interstate with buses at the exit ramps. Why are this so called experts so short sighted that all they can think of is more of the same. More Roads and bridges that will be overcrowded the day they open. We just missed a very good chance to get rid of some of the overcrowding by sending one or two carriers to Florida, but noooo, we need the jobs. It would have been the best thing for this area and the country as a whole, keeping all of the forces here instead of spreading them out makes us sitting ducks for a WMD attack that could wipe out the east coast military. If we're to believe all the fear they keep dishing out about WMDs Then moving the carriers makes so much sense. It would ease the traffic problem and in general help to check the cost of living in the Tidewater area as there would be more housing available for a smaller population. But all they can think of is to take more money from us, and you can remember how well they manage it. With the absolutely sickening handling of the 64 mess on the peninsula. Governor Kain talked about making a adult decision, well he ought to grow up and admit that more of the same isn't the right way to go. Intentionally slowing growth until we get a good mass transit system is the really tough correct way of fixing this Crisis.

Denial of global warming just doesn't sense. I believe those who do, do so for their own reasons. It could be their interests would be negatively effected by admitting their parts in causing it, or they would have to spend money to develop ways to reduce their contributing to it. Maybe they have seen some studies that say it's already too late and they don't see any sense in doing anything other than covering their elite butts as long as possible.
I only mention global warming in a flood post because people who know more than I do say that "intense rain fall" has increased by 20% and global warming is linked to the cause. Two 500 year floods in than fifteen years doesn't mean will be safe for the next 985 years. It means that maybe the people who link it to global warming are right and the people who want to still deny it should reexamine their stance.
Maybe, instead of building levees we should be building gated canals (like the LA river) for miles away from these rivers and lead to large dry reservoirs. (hugh holes in the ground). I know I'm writing in simplistic terms but water distributions is becoming more and more important and what I'm envisioning is sort of a water grid similar to the electric grid. All these floods and no way a managing the water other than sending it down river to a town with shorter or weaker levees seems like a waste as the water destroys what we've built and ends up in the ocean or gulf full of toxic waste from a leveled cities and towns. Irrigation on a massive scale to illuminate the destruction and waste. Why not?

Have you ever seen the movie “The Fog,” the old one and the new version? If you haven’t seen it, the fog would swallow up the people when the fog comes close to people. Watch it anyway, it’s a suspense movie and scary. Anyway, I saw the smoke drifted and creeping over the cornfield in my backyard right before I could hang my clothes outside. I said to myself “Run, it’s coming!” I hang clothes inside my house, close my windows, and duct tape my windows. Last time the smoke soaked through my underwear. I know one thing, I don’t like smoke in my underwear.
When would the smoke stop? For a moment I thought my neighbor was cooking. He can’t cook. Sorry Frank, especially it was on Farther day’s
Now the North Carolina advisory is calling the operation – Operation Code Purple. If the smoke is, white and is drifting all over the Northeastern of North Carolina and to Virginia. Do you think they would called it “Operation Code Smoke in the Air”? or “Operation Bobby Bar-B-Q” I don’t see a purple smoke.
Funny?

Kabul, Afghanistan the Taliban conducted a coordinated attack on a prison freeing over 800 prisoners, close to half of which were Taliban militants. Just the slightest thought towards this incident should make one pause. Questions form from all different angles. What was the prison like, Gitmo? What happen to the prison staff? How did they respond? Did some know in advance? Were there buses, and trucks waiting to help the militants flee or was it just a mad rush for the hills and caves? Were the UN forces notified quickly, and were they close enough to respond? Were the UN forces actively involved in helping guard the prison, whose population were almost fifty percent technically POWs? How many US and UN lives were lost jailing the combatants? How many more will be lost killing them or capturing them a second time? Are there other prisons that are subject to similar attacks and has their security been increased? Should this attack been anticipated?
I don't know the answers, I hope I'm not the only one asking them. No matter how you feel about the way the prisoners in Gitmo, are being treated or if there rights(?) are being violated, or their questioning might not be done in a manner that is effective, or they're getting more free medical care than you can afford to buy. Your feelings while being important should be formed by some logic. I have problems controlling my emotions and consider that to be a plus, because it confirms and reenforces my feelings which I try as much as i can to form based on facts and logic. It creates a passion that drives my behavior. Whoa, that was just some personal ramblings, back to the topic. This incident shows how important it is to have POWs held outside of the battle zone. I don't agree with Bush defying the supreme court or for that matter most of his handling of, well most of everything. but Gitmo, needs changing not necessarily closed.

Okay you have heard the tomatoes salmonella poisoning. Tomatoes are not wash. If you get them in the stores, they are not wash properly. They spray the vegetables with water to make them look good, for you can buy them. However it’s not wash properly. Do people wash the vegetable or fruit when they get home? I think it’s a vegetable. Are tomatoes a vegetable or fruit? – I’m confused?
Anyway, wash your tomatoes when you get home. Scrub it, don’t squish it, if you did – you already invented ketchup.
Here’s a tip: When you buy any vegetables from the store. Wash It! You will never know who handle the vegetables?

only one African American High School
principal and yet they promoted a Caucasian male as principal to a

principal. There is a lack of opportunity for African American employees, some
departments do not have any African American Supervisors even though they have
higher degrees then their current supervisors who were promoted over them. Over the past couple of years
the (blank) department has not promoted or hired one African American and nobody has
investigated this situation. Letters have been written to the school Board and nothing has been done. No one will take issue with this problem because they are afraid to admit a school system practices such discrimination. In addition any African American who is in a position of Authority will not look into it because of fear of losing their position.
