There's nothing like getting a fresh start- especially in life.

I was the graduation speaker for the Fresh Start program on April 3, 2008.

Fresh Start assists people as they transition from welfare to self-sufficiency.

The graduation was held at the Effingham Plaza Senior Center in Portsmouth.  This class had only one male graduate... but each grad had a unique story and the drive to do better.   During the program- which is federally funded- students learn communication and life skills, attend workshops about self-awareness and career development.  Many go on to get their GED, earn certificates in various trades- even go on to college.

I'm glad I could be a part of their graduation. They have a lot to be proud of!
