In what is without question one of America's darkest times, and what I hope history will show ,the darkest. There is finally some good news. I'm not talking about the list of people who lost hundreds of millions of dollars in the Bear-Steans buy out. There is a list of several people who lost hundreds of millions each. I don't worry about those individuals at all because, even thought it's hard to believe that one person could lose so much, for these individuals it won't change their lifestyle at all. I'm not talking about the brave reporters, in Tibet who are managing to get the real story out of China, even if China has been successful in almost total censorship within it's borders. It would be a different America if the Main Stream Media here would take some lessons from that group of reporters. This current crop of the free press in America has, in the most polite terms, let the public down, in it's primary reason for being free, being a critical watchdog of the government, Who really thinks that it's news when a politician is unfaithful, the bigger more important story that week could have been Bush vetoing a bill that would make water boarding illegal or the refusal to answer question about the economy. No, we're still hearing about a 5K per hour escort who happens to have a song on you-tube. What a great model she makes for the young girls in front of the TV. No newscaster that I watched talked about how wall street crooks were happy to see this governor fall since he was the one going after white collar crimes that do more harm to the public than any single bank robber.
Sorry, I said I was going to tell about some good news, It wasn't necessary to contrast this news with any other event going on to make the goodness of this news stand out. Three hundred million Americans have had their image damaged around the world by several internal issues coming to a head all at the same time, several of these problems have been around for decades, but their effect have been easy to ignore until now. The dumbing down of the public in general, thank you dept. of education and the sport and Hollywood and music industries, that make it seem that you don't really need a education to get ahead. I wonder sometimes if the fans of P Diddy know that he has several degrees and can speak in the most proper English when he is supposed to. How many people know that Robin Williams holds a degree or two. Gena Davis is a member of Mensa. Part of their talent is making what they do seem so simple that anyone could do it. A good brain surgeon or rocket scientist makes their jobs look easy also.
Again, I'm sorry, maybe I have AADD, I do tend to have trouble staying on subject. Good news, this one event could do more to restore America in almost ever area that plagues America than any other. I'm talking about HR-799. It was sponsored by Kucinich. Dennis Kucinich and I differ on so many issues, but he is to be admired for having strong enough convictions and the belief that he can do something about them. HR-799 is one of these issues that he is pushing and with the help of several of his fellow legislators, is making progress. HR-799 past a critical point with a good majority, 251 to 162 was the vote. That almost mirrors the public in percentages 60/40, Recent public polls are closer to 70/30. Since I'm a Ron Paul supporter, I know what it's like to stick with ones beliefs in the face of ridicule. I will continue to stand by Dr. Paul even after Nov. I believe not just in the man but his ideals, and he also doesn't sway away from his fundamental core beliefs because of opposition from his peers. I'm don't even have to check on his vote on HR-799 because he is without question a man among men(?) and will support HR-799.
At this point I should tell you what HR-799 is and the important milestone that the last vote did. HR-799 is a bill to impeach Cheney of war crimes. The milestone was that the vote passes it to the judicial committee. It could go even further and include Bush, Powell, Rice, and Rumsfeld. Turning over this administration to be held accountable for their crimes would go a long way in fixing most of America's problems. To allow them to just slip into retirement and die off peacefully in old age is just a signal that the public accepts their behavior and that it's okay for the next or any other public figure to do the same. I should rephrase the die of peacefully, as that makes it sound like they should be jailed and tried then swing like Saddam Hussein did. While, in the ideal sound appealing it is not the American way. Maybe in a Superman comic the phrase "TRUTH JUSTICE, AND THE AMERICAN WAY" sounds good. We know we can't allow these individuals to be turned over to a world court because they would most certainly hang. We should, bring them to court here and then bury our heads in shame if the President at the time pardons them. Support HR-799 and let the real American way run its course. Politicians should be held just as accountable for their actions as you and I. It's good news, that at least somebody in a position to do something,is.
When Ford motor company admitted to them selves that they were in trouble they replaced Mr. Ford. Dr. Ron Paul has been trying for decades to change things from the bottom-up and that hasn't worked, like the Ford Motor Co. needed to change the top to save itself so does this country. Holding those accountable for the mess were in now has to start at the top also. To put this current administration on trial and have them actually suffer some consequence even if it would be just the suspension of their government benefits would do more for this country than any other single event. We would be criminal if we took all of their benefits. If we left them with freedom of movement instead of incarceration then we would have to still provide them with secret service protection so they wouldn't get assassinated. And most likely they would keep the health care that make most of us envy. We just can't give them any retirement pay or allowances or allow them to write books or give speeches. House arrest with ankle bracelets seem to be about the best we could hope for. Support HR-799.
