With the exception of the Mccain proposed 300 billion dollar mortage buy out i think Mccain did great. He was scrappy and I feel put Obama to shame on ideology.Im surprised to hear the pundits reactions, even conservatives, that it was boreing and not a game changer.I think Mccain had to,and did, draw the contrast between the two.Mccain did great!

I agree, WC, the glaring differences between the two candidates was made clear last night. I think McCain's idea to buy out the mortgages directly, was a real fast curveball, and surprised a lot of people. Many pundits have suggested the idea, of this bottom-up solution, and it is an appealing strategy. Unfortunately, what he suggested along with it isn't helpful. He said that once the government bought the bad loan, then he wants to generously allow the house to be reassessed at a lower 'market rate' price. That is better than Obama's plan, to have a judge force a private lender to take the loss of renegotiating the price and terms of the loan, but not much better. Both ideas would affect lower home values, but at least McCain isn't robbing the banks.
Either way, where do I get to sign up?

It's the differences of philosophy that came out that caught my attention. Obama stresses healthcare through government mandate. McCain stresses promoting market-based healthcare opportunities for individuals to choose from. Obama continually seeks diplomatic solutions in foreign relations. McCain articulated the concept of diplomacy from a position of strength. Obama stresses energy innovation via government research and grants. McCain calls for unshackling existant energy industries. Obama proposes independence from foriegn oil by promoting alternative energy. McCain sees using domestic oil expansion, as a way to influence a lower market price for oil, as a bridge to other future energy solutions. Obama advocates raising taxes by reversing the Bush tax cuts, then taking less of those taxes from families making less than $250k while taking more from medium and large businesses. Mcain would make the Bush tax cuts permanent, and then increase the dependent child deduction. Obama's answer to '...(if diplomacy fails), and Iran attacks Israel, would you send us troops to defend Israel, or go to U.N. for approval first?' Obama offered more diplomatic solutions. McCain pointed out that the U.N. would not act, and (while also offereing diplomatic solutions,)supported Israel's right to defend itself as well as that the U.S. would act militarily to prevent a second holocaust. Obama siezed on 'what he would ask Americans to sacrifice' as an opportunity to promote alternative energy and national service. McCain pointed out that Americans may have to go without some wasteful and ineffe

con't
-ineffective governmnet programs to fund defense.
In nearly every subject, Obama promoted his agenda, while McCain revealed his principles.

I have to give this much to Obama - he does extremely well at playing to people's stupidity. Most people would like to believe that there is a free lunch somewhere. Obama speaks to that desire and the stupid hear what they want to hear!

jstol3, I agree, people are hering what they think is there, not reality.
When asked a question most of time Obama does an excellent job of side stepping the question and focusing on Bush administration screw ups. Someone needs to tell Obama that he running against McCain, not Bush and his administration, the boy needs help and he is a lousy pin up boy for the democrats choice. Hey he was paid to talk the talk not walk the walk. I still love the fact that Obama has not a clue as to why McCain will not speak to the president of Spain, and has the nerve to go on national television and make a big fuss out of it, he made a big A-S out of himself in the international affairs and national security sector. I could not feel safe with that dumbA handling our country. People need to wise up to this boy, because right there he seperated himself, the boys from the men.

Did anyone notice that McCain said we would send troops to help our friends the Isralies, and NObama NEVER answered the question clearly. My guess is he didn't want to because most of his campaign money comes from Iran via the internet.
